The Romanian Army will have the right to shoot down drones that unlawfully enter the country's airspace. The law, which comes to strengthen national security, was adopted by the Romanian Senate, IPN reports, with reference to caleaeuropeană.ro.

In the last two years, the Ministry of National Defense of Romania reported over 20 incidents in which drones launched by Russia on Ukraine came dangerously close to Romanian territory or even fell on the country's territory.

The law, carried with 79 votes in favor, 11 against and two abstentions, sets down a clear framework regarding the shooting down of unauthorized drones that violate Romania's airspace. The law regulates the duties of the authorities responsible for preventing and countering such incidents, given the increasingly frequent threats in the vicinity of its borders.

According to the Romanian authorities, the adoption of this law underlines the authorities' concern for national security in a tense geopolitical context, marked by the war in Ukraine and the threats in the region.
