The first consignment of 20,000 doses of vaccine of the 200,000 promised will be delivered soon to Moldova by Romania. An ordinance to this effect was approved in the February 24 meeting of the Government of Romania, IPN reports.

According to the Prime Minister of Romania Florin Cîțu, after the emergency ordinance is published, a Government decision will need to be taken to make sure that the doses reach the Republic of Moldova as swiftly as possible.

President Maia Sandu welcomed the Romanian Government’s decision, saying these shots will be sufficient for immunizing all the healthcare workers. “We are grateful to the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis and the Prime Minister of Romania Florin Cîțu and also to the Romanian people for the donation of vaccine and the immense solidarity they show,” stated President Sandu.

By end-February, Moldova is to also get 156,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines made by Oxford/AstraZeneca, through the COVAX platform. According to the Ministry of Health, Moldova by February 24 got over 180,000 cases of COVID-19. The death toll from diseases caused by the infection passed 3,800.
