The education certificates issued in Moldova and Romania will be reciprocally recognized under an updated agreement concluded today in Chisinau by the Moldovan and Romanian education ministers, Leonid Bujor and Petru Daniel Funeriu, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under the agreement, Romania shall recognize all the diplomas issued in Moldova and vice-versa. At the same time, certain certificates, like in medicine and in architecture, will require taking some tests before recognition. Moldovan Education Minister Leonid Bujor said this move would facilitate the academic exchange of students and teachers through better services in the field. Petru Daniel Funeriu, the Romanian Minister of Education, Research, Youth and Sports, said the reciprocal recognition of the education certificates represented an important step toward European integration for Moldova. “The holders of Moldovan diplomas will be able to enjoy the same rights as the Romanian citizens who graduated from a Romanian (educational) establishment”, said the minister. The initial agreement was signed in 1998 but it came with a rather tiring set of procedures. Leonid Bujor also announced that negotiations were under way on similar agreements with Estonia and Poland.
