[Info-Prim Neo article from the series “2011: how it was and how it wasn’t”] {“AEI agreement – one year of government, in the opinion of Corneliu Ciurea, political analyst} The Alliance for European Integration witnessed tense moments during the year owing to the rivalry between the PDM and PLDM. The rivalries are mainly determined by motivations and subjective efforts. They are not something inherent in the political life, but express personal relations, hatred, aversions and anxieties. However, the political logic of our life helped the alliance survive these internal animosities because the political logic does not accept direct confrontations with the PCRM and this was the main reason why the alliance survived, considers political analyst Corneliu Ciurea. “However, the alliance achieved certain results. It was frail from the very beginning, but managed to live on during two years. It exists even if it is shaky,” said the analyst. The agreement signed at the end of last December showed that the PDM obtained a certain political success in the period as it had a wider maneuvering space and the possibility of blackmailing at moral level rather than at ethical one, believes Corneliu Ciurea. “If an agreement was signed now, a series of the provisions would be different as the PDM wouldn’t probably have the same superiority as last December,” he stated. Despite the shortcomings of the AEI, Corneliu Ciurea considers that the coalition government is the best form of government for Moldova. “We should normally follow the path of alliances and learn to live under alliances. Even if the alliance is blamed, the effects of this administration are not at all disastrous,” said the analyst. According to him, a coalition government is better because the most important thing in politics is not to allow the power to be excessive. “There must be permanently erected barriers to weaken the power and to decentralize it. The power within an alliance is always limited. Because the power is not sufficient, the alliance is a great advantage for the political system,” said Corneliu Ciurea. He also said that regardless of the result of the presidential elections, the AEI will have either to survive or to be re-formed after the early elections. “There will be harsh confrontations and arguments, but it is important that the alliance survive,” said the analyst. He stressed that this year the PCRM also did its job in the opposition. It was rather vibrant, staged protests and was dynamic and observable. The agreement on the formation of the Alliance for European Integration 2 was signed on December 30, 2010. [Irina Turcanu, Info-Prim Neo]
