The rigging of the presidential elections began before Parliament set the date of the presidential elections. Statements on the issue were made in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

Lilia Carasciuc, executive director of Transparency International Moldova, said society must continue to exert pressure on the power so as not to allow the elections to be fixed. “Even if these may seem insignificant, we scored some victories. The Constitutional Court’s judgment of March 4, concerning the return to the direct election of the President, derived from the pressure applied by society,” she stated.

Political analyst Oazu Nantoi considers the presidential elections will be massively rigged. “First of all, a campaign will be conducted to denigrate some opponents by media outlets controlled by the ruling parties. There will also be used the administrative resources so that some of the contenders could be removed from the race, as Renato Usatyi was in 2014. This needed two years to prove his point, but his right to be elected was infringed,” he said.

Journalist Dmitry Chubashenko also thinks the authorities will try to fix the result of the presidential elections. “The election of the President will be like a referendum that will show the level of people’s confidence in the current government. That’s why the rulers will try to hide the real result of the elections,” he stated.
