Expert Veaceslav Berbeca argues that it has been expected that the mayor of Chisinau will not be elected from the first round, and in the second round the Socialist Ion Ceban and the candidate of the ACUM bloc, Andrei Năstase, will get through. According to him, this conclusion could be reached considering the voting trends of the electorate. The expert says that although the geopolitical factor was not clearly stressed, it mattered a lot, IPN reports.

"Those who feel closer to the Russian Federation voted with the Socialist Ion Ceban, while those who aspire to a Western model future, voted for the declared right-wing parties. Given these options the results were expectable ”, stated Veaceslav Berbeca on the TVR Moldova sound stage.

In his opinion, it was difficult for citizens to expect an alternative because it had to be created. "If we look at ACUM Bloc, they have been so far the alternative to what was in the Republic of Moldova until recently. For another alternative to come up, it takes some time, ” said the expert.

Public policy expert Ștefan Gligor argues that the preliminary results of yesterday's polls show that there is still room for improvements. In his opinion, the candidates should learn to do their homework. The expert says that people are disappointed with the performance of the candidates in general and the lack of a clear vision put on paper as to how to manage the city, identify problems and solve them. "There is no clarity as regards the priorities for the coming years and the sources of financing and coverage for solving the problems," stated Stefan Gligor.

In his opinion, this proves that a reset of the political class and the way of addressing these issues is needed.

After the processing of 306 minutes of the 307 in Chisinau, preliminary results show that the PSRM candidate, Ion Ceban, has obtained 40.16% of the votes, whereas the candidate of the ACUM bloc, Andrei Năstase - 31.09% of the votes.
