Rescue teams are carrying out an information campaign for citizens ahead of the cold season. Employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations started field trips in Chisinau municipality to inform the people about the measures to prevent fires that break out due to the incorrect use of heating installations in residential places. Home visits are traditionally conducted every year and consist of explanatory and demonstrative discussions, IPN reports.
The people are urged to correctly set up natural gas installations and to ensure that they are located in places inaccessible to children. At the same time, the functionality of the devices must be periodically checked and if malfunctions are detected, the citizens are advised to seek help from authorized specialists.
“The natural gas installations must be turned on only after the causes that led to the release of gas are dealt with. The placement of gas cylinders inside homes, especially near heat sources, is prohibited. People who choose to use them must place them in metal boxes outside rooms, at a minimum distance of 5 meters from the entrance to the home. They should be filled only with the fuel for which they are intended,” said the Inspectorate.
The rescuers also draw attention to the correct utilization of the stove. The people are urged to turn off the stove after using it and, when they leave the house, to unplug it. In order to avoid poisoning, the citizens must ensure permanent ventilation of the rooms where open flame appliances powered by natural gas are installed. The improper operation of gas installations can result in fires or explosions in closed spaces.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations plans to carry out information activities in all the districts of the country.
Official data show that the previous cold season, the number of fires in homes decreased by 24. The toll, however, was tragic: eight people died, including 3 children.
