Representatives of the diaspora demand to amend the electoral legislation so as to ensure their right to vote and the possibility of financially supporting the preferred candidates, IPN reports.
Vadim Branzan, one of the representatives of the diaspora, in a news conference said it was decided to form a working group for drafting a bill with amendments to the electoral legislation with the involvement of civil society of Moldova and international human rights organizations.
Among the proposals are to introduce electronic voting, to remove the limit on ballots for polling places overseas, to increase the number of polling places abroad, to create electoral constituencies in the diaspora and to allow the diaspora members to financially support candidates or parties.
Vadim Branzan said the proposed bill will be submitted to the Government and Parliament and they will then insist that this should be adopted before the parliamentary elections of 2018.
“The presidential elections showed that the electoral legislation is imperfect and hampers the right to vote of those from the diaspora. There are about 1 million Moldovans outside the country. The money that we send home maintains the moribund economy of this state,” stated Branzan.
