“I'm an atheist and I think nothing happens after death, but it's never bad to make good things. That is why a journalist should be concerned with the social problems of the society he lives in,” one of the most known journalists in South-Eastern Europe, Vladimir Pozner, has told a news conference in Chisinau on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vladimir Pozner says the problem of the HIV-infected should be tackled largely, namely because people do not know much about this disease up to now. “I must say I am first a physiologist and then a journalist, and the problem of the HIS-infected has been concerning me. I visited hospital and sought for facts and was surprised to see the doctors did not get near the infected. My every gesture, as taking babies with my hands, was looked at as a heroic deed,” he said. Vladimir Pozner maintains that at this very stage the condom is the best protection way, except for abstinence.
Asked about the relations between Russia and Moldova, especially about the Transnistrian conflict, Vladimir Pozner has said the issue is too intricate to be discussed at a news conference. Still, he says unlike other empires, which managed to keep good relationships with their former colonies, the mighty Russian empire has failed to excel in this regard. Many errors have been committed in the Russian empire's relationships with the countries it subjugated along history, he said .
He has refrained from speaking on other issues expecting future solutions: “I'm not a futurologist and I don't know how things will develop in six years. I don't think there are such people to know exactly what is going on to happen in the future.”
He suggests it's more important that people are concerned with more earthly issues as poverty and unemployment.
Vladimir Pozner has met with President Vladimir Voronin, but offered no details.
Vladimir Pozner has been invited to Chisinau by the SIDA Est-Vest Moldovan office, to try to talk in media managers to promote social advertising, especially concerning the HIV/AIDS spreading.
