On March 13, the leader of Our Party Renato Usatyi will mount a protest to which he invites all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The politician said the protest will take place at the Centru Court of Chisinau City, where the request to retroactively decrease the gas charges will be examined. He noted that he doesn’t want to organize this protest together with other political parties and he will provide transport for all the citizens from districts who want to get to Chisinau to show their dissatisfaction with the high charges, IPN reports.

Renato Usatii said that he filed a complaint to court back in July 2023 and all the conditions to revise the gas charges down were met even then.

“Earlier, the Commission for Emergency Situations took a retroactive decision to raise gas charges, arguing that the purchase price of gas increased above €500 per thousand cubic meters. We use exactly their arguments. Last February already, the situation allowed buying gas at a reduced price and the charges could be reduced to 14 lei. We invoke their arguments. We filed the complaint in July 2023, but the court hearing was set for March 13 only now. They delayed the process and only now named the date. Moreover, they told us that the hearing will take place not at the Rascani Court, but at the Centru Court,’ Renato Usatyi stated in the talk show “Resumé” in RliveTV.

The politician noted that on March 13, when the court hearing will take place, a large-scale protest will be mounted and all the citizens who are dissatisfied with the high charges and with the socioeconomic situation in the country are invited to join in. He called on the government not to try and block the smooth running of the protest.

“I invite all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to come to this protest. I will provide them with transport. I don’t need other parties. I promised the citizens that they will know the truth and their rights will be defended. That’s why the protest promised by me will take place on March 13. I recommend the government not to try and play with us because we will go directly to the office of Dorin Recean as incumbent Prime Minister and as chairman of the then Commission for Emergency Situations,” said the leader of Our Party.

On Wednesday, the National Agency for Energy Regulation set a charge of 14.47 lei, VAT included, for one cubic meter of gas. The new charge will enter into force together with the publication of the relevant decision in the Official Gazette.
