Remittances in second quarter larger than in first quarter

The volume of remittances sent from abroad to private individuals in Moldova through banks in the second quarter of this year totaled US$453.98 million, as against US$314 million in the first three months of 2014, IPN reports, quoting the National Bank of Moldova.

In April, remittances came to US$150 million, in May to US$148 million, while in June to US$155 million. Some 26.5% of the remittances were transferred in US dollars, as opposed to 27.9% in the first quarter, 35.5% in Euros, compared to 37.2% in January – March, while 38% in Russian rubles, in contrast to 34.6% in the first three months of this year.

Remittances sent home by the Moldovans working or living abroad in January – June added up to US$768 million, an increase of about US$50 million compared with the first half of last year, when they totaled over US$720 million. In January – March this year, remittances were lower in volume compared with the corresponding period last year.

The volume of remittances sent to private individuals in Moldova through banks from abroad in 2013 came to US$1.608,98 billion, up 7.7% on 2012.
