Registration opened for presidential candidates

Persons eligible to become President of Moldova are invited to submit their applications starting today, December 29. MP Tudor Deliu, the head of the special parliamentary Commission on Presidential Elections, said the potential candidates will be interviewed by the Commission only if their applications are complete, Info-Prim Neo reports. The required documentation includes a letter endorsed by at least 15 MPs, the applicant's personal consent, a medical certificate, the applicant's income statement, a resume, and a copy of the identity card. Applicantions will be accepted between 2:00 and 5:00 PM daily until January 12, 7:00 PM. To be eligible for President, a candidate must be at least 40 years of age, must have lived in Moldova for the last 10 years and must know the official language. Parliament on January 15 will try again to elect a President after on December 16 the sole candidate Marian Lupu didn't collect the required minimum number of votes.
