After the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk signed a bill concerning the state border of the Moldovan Transnistrian republic, which is to come into force, poles and towers will appear along the border with Moldova in several days, and the regime of entering the regime will be toughened up, Ion Leahu, who is a member of the Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC), said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, IPN reports.
“It is Shevchuk’s instruction to transform the so-called border crossing points between Moldova and Transnistria, and between Transnistria and Ukraine, into international points,” stated Ion Leahu. He also said that Russia is behind this law. In 2007-2008, they prepared poles painted red and green and observation towers that were to be set up along the border with Moldova. But, probably because of misunderstandings, they didn’t carry out those plans.
As to the fact that settlements that are within the jurisdiction of the constitutional authorities were included in the composition of Transnistria, Ion Leahu said that the Transnistrian administration does not listen to and does not ask for the permission of Chisinau. “They ask for nobody. They do what they want. There are plots between Bender town and Chircaiesti village that earlier belonged to Chircaiesti and Farladeni. They were leased out for building villas on and then transferred back to the Transnistrian authorities,” said the JCC member, adding that something will definitely happen as a result of these acts.
Asked about his expectations from the hearings set to take place in Parliament next Thursday, Ion Leahu said that a legislative body that witnesses contradictions at all levels is unable to analyze the situation, not speaking about taking decisions.
According to Ion Leahu, the only method of solving the Transnistrian conflict is to seek help from such international institutions as the UN Tribunal in The Hague.
On June 10, Yevgeny Shevchuk signed a so-called bill delimiting the state border of Transnistria. Bender and three villages, among which Varnita, were included in the composition of the breakaway republic, even if they are controlled by the constitutional authorities. The official Chisinau said that Tiraspol’s decision runs counter to the legal framework and the logic of the Transnistrian conflict statement process.
