Regardless of the European Council’s decision, Moldova remains committed to the path of accession, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă stated in a news conference. He noted that the diplomatic efforts have continued before the European Council’s summit. President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Minister of Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu have discussions with high-ranking officials of all the EU member state to promote the importance of opening accession negotiations with Moldova, IPN reports.

“No member state of the European Union has objections over our country’s preparedness for the start of accession negotiations,” said the Government’s spokesman. According to him, if the decision is not taken at the upcoming meeting of the Council, it will be taken at a later date.

“It is important that Moldova did its homework and is ready for the opening of negotiations […] The fact that Moldova is ready is not only an assertion made by the authorities as this was also confirmed by high-ranking officials of the European Union. The European Commission, by its recommendation of November 8, clearly noted that our country successfully implemented 94% of the measures agreed in the summer of 2022, obtaining this way a very high grade,” stated Daniel Vodă.

He also said that the authorities undertook to accelerate the reform efforts so that the country is even better prepared when a consensus on the enlargement of the EU is reached.

The European Council meets in Brussels on December 14-15.
