A red heat warning was issued in Moldova as the temperatures are expected to rise to +40 degrees Celsius. The exception is a few districts in northern Moldova, where the yellow warning was changed to orange, IPN reports.

The State Weather Service said that the heat wave will continue to expand and intensify during July 12-17. Some of the northern districts are covered by an orange advisory as the maximum air temperature there will vary between +36 and +38 degrees Celsius. In the rest of the country, the highest daytime temperature will be +40 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures in most parts of the country will not drop below 20 degrees Celsius.

The warning regarding the natural fire danger of class V remains in force.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations warns the citizens to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun’s rays, especially in the afternoon hours. Among the most vulnerable ones are the small children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with chronic and heart diseases. To avoid heat shock and dehydration, the people should drink enough water, wear light-colored light clothing and use sunscreen.

Rescuers repeatedly warn the citizens that swimming is allowed only in authorized places equipped with rescue stations. To avoid thermal shock after prolonged sun exposure, sudden entry into the water is prohibited. Those who choose to go swimming are urged to take a shower before entering the water, in specially designed places and recreational areas with swimming pools, so as to regulate the level of body temperature.

In situations of risk, the people are advised to urgently call the 112 Service.
