A new record temperature high was recorded in Moldova on January 5. The highest daytime temperature reached 17.4°C at the meteorological station in Tiraspol. This is for the first time in the observation period of the State Hydrometeorological Service that such highs are recorded in January. This record is by 1.4°C higher than the previous record of 2007, when +16°C were registered at the stations in Bravicea and Dubăsari.

Genady Roșca, head of the Forecasts Division of the State Hydrometeorological Service, has told IPN that the high temperatures of the beginning of January are due to a mass of warm air coming from North Africa. These temperatures are by 15-16°C higher than the norm for this period, which is of +1 ...+2°C.

During the next seven days, the temperatures will decline and at nigh will oscillate between -5 and 0°C, while during the day will vary between -1 and +5 °C. Rain and snow are forecast for January 8-13.
