Ninety-nine winemakers registered to take part in the National Wine Day that will be celebrated on October 5 and 6 in the Great National Assembly Square. Ștefan Iamandi, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, told a press conference that the number of participants increases every year and this year will see a new record. More participants are yet likely to register.

This year’s edition will take place under a new slogan: “Our Unexpectedly Great Wine”.

Access to the venue will be free. However, those interested will be able to purchase the Taster’s Card, for 250 lei, which will give them access to 11 wine tasting events. They will also be offered a Tritan glass. The card also provides a 20 percent discount on Wine of Moldova promotional items, IPN reports.

“The Great National Assembly Square is a limited space and, for the first time, we are expanding from Bănulescu-Bodoni St to Maria Cebotari Street. The gastronomic area will be organized there, to offer a unique experience to our visitors, persons who like tasting wines and combining them with our traditional dishes. Also, the National Wine Day is a very important tool to promote the culture of consumption. For two days, we will stage the Wine School that will involve famous personalities from the wine sector,” stated Ștefan Iamandi.

At the same conference, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, said that the wine has become a business card of the Republic of Moldova due to those who work hard in this sector. According to him, behind the wine there is an enormous amount of work, which begins in February, when people go to clean up the vines. “I want to invite everyone on October 5 and 6. There will be two days during which you will be able to gain various knowledge because there will be different masterclasses. We are talking about the possibility of communicating directly with producers. The store displays a bottle of wine on the shelf, but when you come to the festival, you see who is behind this bottle, you see the man, the producer,” noted Vladimir Bolea.

The Taster’s Card could be purchased on the day of the event at the Info Point or online. Also, during the National Wine Day, tours of wineries will be staged for a charge.

The event is organized by the National Office of Vine and Wine, with the support of the strategic partner USAID Moldova and Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund.
