A record number of national wine makers will take part in the National Wine Day this year – 47. The holiday will be celebrated in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on October 7 and 8 under the slogan “Keeping the legend alive”. A sum of 2.7 million lei was budgeted for the purpose, IPN reports.
Deputy minister of agriculture, regional development and environment Vasile Luca told a news conference that moderate alcohol consumption will be promoted. The wine industry is of major importance for the Republic of Moldova and, owing to the support of the development partners and with the direct involvement of national producers, important changes occur in this sector, with emphasis being laid on the quality of wine production so as to increase its attractiveness.
National Office of Vine and Wine director Gheorghe Arpentin said the visitors could buy a set of recyclable glasses for 150 and 250 lei and could taste wines made by 22 producers that joined in. The promotional package will also contain two tickets for trolleybus trips during October 7-8. The voucher will enable to obtain free water and discounts on the promotional products of the event, such as T-shirts and caps.
Those who want will be able to test their level of alcohol in blood. A number of 5,000 alcotests will be provided for the purpose. There will be staged the traditional Wine School and launched an olfactive contest for children and grownups to identify standard aromas in wine.
According to Gheorghe Arpentin, about half of the money spent on the organization of the event is recovered from the sale of promotional products. This year, the number of persons responsible for maintaining security and public order will be doubled. There will be attracted volunteers who will collect waste and will sort this for being recycled. The visitors will be able to amuse themselves in three special areas. National artists will give a concert in the central square of Chisinau starting at 6pm. The concert will last until 11pm and will end with a lights show.
The National Wine Day has been celebrated since 2002.
