The Emergency Response Center has issued recommendations in the context of the severe weather advisory for January 7-10.

In order to prevent incidents, IGSU is urging the public to refrain from hitting the road, especially on January 8, when a snow storm is forecast. At the same time, people are asked to constantly follow the information bulletins and the warnings issued by the Weather Service and other authorities. Minors and the elderly must be monitored to keep them safe.

If travel is unavoidable, drivers must ensure that national and local roads are passable and vehicles are sufficiently fueled, equipped with winter tires and special snow removal equipment and tire chains. The phone battery must be kept permanently charged, so that in emergencies people can call 112.

To avoid medical emergencies, people with chronic illnesses are urged to contact their family doctors to determine early whether interventions and intensive care are needed, so that they can be carried out before the weather conditions worsen. In the event of a blizzard and strong wind, citizens are urged to avoid touching downed electrical wires, taking shelter or passing near trees, poles, billboards and buildings under construction.

Also, the Ministry of Education and Research has issued a circular to the district/municipal directorates of education, recommending the adoption of preventive measures to ensure the safety and protection of students and staff in educational institutions.
