A woman from Cimișlia town said the recent rain destroyed her orchard and gate. The house where she lives is the last on the street, being situated on a slope. The heavy rain washed the road and the rainwater took everything it collected on the way to her gate. The local mayor’s office does nothing to help her. On the other hand, the mayor said this is not the only problematic street and they now do not have funds to solve the problem, IPN reports.

In a message to the press, Lidia Stratula from Cimișlia said the road-related problem is very old. Every time it rains, the stones and the dirt are washed down to her house. “We have made approaches to the mayor’s office to ultimately solve the problem and repair the road that was part of a repair project. But nothing has been done yet,” said the woman, noting that a drainage channel was dug near her house, but this got blocked with stones. “The rainwater inundated us from all sides and didn’t enter only the house.” The mayor’s office didn’t react to her calls, invoking the shortage of funds.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, mayor of Cimișlia town Sergiu Andronachi said that he is aware of the situation. They planned to clean the road as this is the only short-term solution that can be implemented. This is not the only problematic road. The local authorities will request the Government to allocate money to help the mayor’s office as 250-300 meters of road are in need of repair.

Sergiu Andronachi noted that a decision was adopted to repair Petru Rareș St, where the woman lives, but locals asked to build a sewerage and water supply system first and then to repair the road. They do not have available funds in the local budget, but hope to identify partners, including in Romania, so as to move on.

Rain is forecast until the end of this week.
