Radu Albot suffered a defeat in the first match of 2017. The Moldovan tennis player lost to Lu Yen Hsun of Taipei 2-6, 1-6 in the first round of the ATP Chennai Open tournament held in India, IPN reports.
Hsun, who takes the 62nd position in the world rankings, dominated the match. As a result of this defeat, Albot won no point in the ATP rankings, but gained over US$4,500. Currently, Radu Albot ranks 97th in the world.
The prize money of the competition in India totals over half a million dollars. The main favorite, Croatia’s Marin Cilic, was eliminated early by Slovak player Kovalik 6-7, 7-5, 5-7.
