Radu Albot was beaten in the second qualifying round of the Australian Open for the fourth time. Thus, the Moldovan tennis player has so far competed in Grand Slam singles finals of the US Open only, IPN reports.
After defeating Czech player Jan Merti 6-3, 7-6, Albot seemed to be the favorite in the duel with Ireland’s James Mc'Gee, who takes the 199th position in the world rankings, especially after winning the first set 6-1. He yet lost the next two sets 1-6, 2-6.
In 2015, Radu Albot entered the Top 100 singles world rankings for the first time. His best position in these rankings was the 85th. Currently, the Moldovan tennis player ranks 120th at world level.
