The National Clinical Protocol “Infection with the Novel Coronavirus” was updated by adding data about the last classified variant – Omicron. There was also reviewed the antiviral treatment of patients with COVID-19, with new antiviral remedies being included, such as Paxlovid and Molnupiravir, with the latter forming part of the category of compensated drugs, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Health, the length of quarantine was shortened from 14 days to 10 days. This way, the unvaccinated person who came into contact with a person with COVID-19 will be placed in quarantine for a period of ten days. In the period, their state of health will be monitored, while quarantine can be interrupted after the fifth day if the person does not have symptoms, on condition that a PCR COVID-19 or a rapid antigen test is done and this is negative.

The vaccinated persons will not be placed in quarantine, but their state of health will be supervised and they will obey the general rules for preventing the spread of the virus, such as wearing of a mask and maintaining of physical distancing. However, they will have to do a PCR COVID-19 or rapid antigen test on the fifth day. If the conditions are not met, the vaccinated person will be placed in quarantine for a ten-day period after the last contact with the infected person. Also, the persons who had COVID-19 during the past 90 days and do not have clinical signs will not be placed in quarantine.

According to the National Clinical Protocol, the persons who are in quarantine and start to have clinical symptoms of COVID-19 will call the family doctor or the emergency medical assistance service.

The unvaccinated asymptomatic persons (children and adults, including pregnant women) will leave quarantine in seven days of the positive result of the SARS CoV-2 test, while the vaccinated ones in five days of the positive test result.

The unvaccinated symptomatic persons with mild and moderate forms of COVID-19 will leave quarantine in ten days of the onset of clinical symptoms, but not earlier than 24 hours of the last symptoms and only after the family doctor takes such a decision depending on clinical recovery. The patients (children and adults, including pregnant women) with moderate or severe forms will leave quarantine when they are discharged from the hospital and after the family doctor takes such a decision depending on clinical recovery.
