Pyotr Poroshenko has won the presidential elections in Ukraine by the first round. According to the preliminary data of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, over 3.2 million people or 54.03% of the electors voted for the Ukrainian tycoon, the Ukrainian press reported, quoted by IPN.
His closest rival Yulia Timoshenko gained 13.2% of the vote, being followed by Oleg Liashko with 8.48% of the poll.
Central Election Commission deputy head Andrei Maghera said the presidential election in Ukraine can be considered valid. The final results will be announced in ten days and the new head of state will take over within 30 days.
The snap presidential elections in Ukraine were held on May 25. About 800 Ukrainians from Moldova voted at the two polling places established in Chisinau and in Balti.
