The leader of the National Unity Party (PUN) Octavian Țîcu said that if the intentions of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians had been noble, the party’s representatives could have come before the launch in Moldova to discuss the formation of a unionist bloc for the snap parliamentary elections with the unionist platform PUN. The offer of AUR cannot be accepted given that the condition is to run in elections under the emblem of AUR, IPN reports.

In a news conference, Octavian Țîcu said the PUN was today visited by the AUR co-president Claudiu Târziu, senator who heads the Commission for Romanians Everyone in the Senate of Romania and they disused the future political configuration in the Republic of Moldova and the participation in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11.

According to Octavian Țîcu, the PUN was the first to launch the idea of building a unionist platform in the Republic of Moldova, in December 2020, and their platform was joined by 12 remarkable personalities so far. The AUR’s proposal cannot be understood. Strengthening the PUN platform so as to capture the unionist vote, as in the local and presidential elections, was the only serious option for the Romanian unionist forces to win.

The PUN suggested a compromise variant – forming a unionist bloc with a unionist name that would attract all the political agents and unionists under a neutral unionist name that would not reflect the political ambitions of the AUR in the Republic of Moldova. “We have a pro-European and Romanian project we offer to all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and our target is all the voters in the Republic of Moldova – of the Socialists, of Usatîi, Shor, Maia Sandu and Năstase. We offer a country project to all the citizens,” stated Octavian Țîcu.

In a news conference where the Liberal Party announced it will run in the upcoming elections alongside AUR, AUR Moldova president Vlad Biletski said they are also waiting for the National Unity Party to join in. The AUR undertakes publicly to offer the first places on its list to the representatives of the PUN.
