The eligibility criteria for beneficiaries of social housing were extended. This way, besides the vulnerable sections of the population, the families in which at least one member works in the public sector or the public service sector will also be entitled to social housing. The MPs gave a second reading to a bill that provides for this, IPN reports.

The “minimum of existence” concept will be replaced by the “minimum official salary” as one of the eligibility criteria. Owing to this amendment, the local public authorities in Moldova will be able to offer social housing to public servants from critical areas and to fill the vacancies, contributing to developing the regions.

The bill also contains recommendations formulated by the Court of Auditors, which carried out an audit to see how the project to build social housing for vulnerable groups of people was implemented the previous years. The proposals refer to special conditions for terminating the lease, including when incorrect data are presented or when the LPAs are not informed about the modification of the conditions that served as a reason for offering social housing.

As many as 3,500 persons from socially deprived group have been provided with dwellings within the two stages of the project to build social housing.
