The Socialist Party could form “a parliamentary majority with a functional Government, definitely not a minority one, with the political bloc ACUM. If not, then snap elections”, stated President Igor Dodon after attending a PSRM convention as the party’s informal leader. “At the National Council today, the option of a coalition with the PDM hasn’t been discussed”, he added.

Igor Dodon reiterated the PSRM’s conditions for a potential parliamentary majority with ACUM. The bloc must accept the Socialists’ initiatives to index pensions twice a year, to establish a maternity capital program, and to repeal the law “which put the burden of (repaying the costs of the embezzled) billon on people’s shoulders”. The Socialists also want the annulment of the so-called Anti-Propaganda Law, the adoption of an amended Languages Law declaring Russian as the language of interethnic communication in Moldova, as well as the adoption of a legislative package on the Gagauz autonomy.

Further, the PSRM wants the Security and Intelligence Service back under presidential jurisdiction. And as the party that polled most votes, the Socialists want the posts of Speaker, Foreign Minister, Interior Minister, Defense Minister and that of Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Matters.

“These are the fields where the PSRM will delegate professionals in the future Government, one that conducts a balanced foreign policy. Good relations with both the East and the West. Neither a pro-European or pro-Russian policy. These are the conditions under which negotiations can be started and we shall insist on this position. Want to talk? These are the conditions. If not, say it loud an clear and we will all start prepping for snap elections”, declared the informal Socialist leader.

The PSRM’s National Council adopted a declaration saying the best solution to the current political situation would be to have a functional Parliament and avoid snap elections. The party recalled that it thrice attempted negotiations with ACUM’s component parties, despite ideological differences. The PSRM found that ACUM hasn’t shown “any constructive attitude”. “The bloc’s representatives have ignored virtually all the proposals of the PSRM and it is incredible that the bloc ACUM that occupied only the third place in elections is only interested in getting complete power”, says the declaration.

The PSRM National Council, however, said the party is ready to continue negotiations.
