The Party of Socialists proposed Zinaida Grechanyi for the post of Parliament Speaker and suggested a series of initiatives for opening negotiations on the formation of a parliamentary majority. The PSRM invites those of the bloc ACUM to examine the proposals and to pronounce on them. On April 10, the party will make new statements as to the subsequent steps, IPN reports.
After the April 9 joint meeting of the Political Executive Committee of the Party of Socialists and the Socialist parliamentary group, the party’s secretary for ideology Ion Ceban read a Statement, saying the PSRM seeks the annulment of the law that makes the repayment of the US$ 1 billion stolen from the banking system the people’s burden, indexation of pensions two times a year, institution of maternal capital as essential support for families in Moldova and a balanced policy in the field of interethnic relations. The Socialists also plead for the repealing of the so-called anti-propaganda law and for the adoption of a new law on the functioning of languages on Moldova’s terrify so that Russian has the status of interethnic communication language and of the package of laws on the status of ATU Gagauzia.
The PSRM suggests transferring the Security and Intelligence Service under the management of the Presidential Office, as it was before October 2016, and entrusting the foreign policy and defense areas, including the competent ministries, to it so as to enable the President to carry out his functional duties in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. “These are the main elements from which the PSRM is ready to start discussions on governance. If there are other major subjects, we are ready to examine them,” stated Ion Ceban.
According to him, the Socialists are sure that only by common responsibility and political maturity, the political crisis could be overcome and snap elections could be avoided. “If a compromise could not be reached and a dialogue based on the aforementioned could not be ensured, the PSRM is ready to go towards snap elections and to request the people to appropriately assess the national political parties,” he stated, reading the party’s Statement.
For her part, the leader of the PSRM Zinaida Grecheanyi said all these proposals are elements based on which the party is ready to have discussions on the creation of a parliamentary majority. She called on the representatives of the political bloc ACUM DA PAS to analyze them thoroughly and to pronounce on them.
