Members of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) described a number of statements made by the team of candidate for President Maia Sandu as untruthful. In a news conference, the team of the PSRM presented documents and videos to prove their assertions, IPN reports.

“It is at least amusing to hear that Igor Dodon is to blame for what happened during the last seven years of life, as candidate Maia Sandu asserted. We were in the opposition all these years, while Maia Sandu was in government,” stated the leader of the Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council Ion Ceban.

According to the Socialists, Maia Sandu was included in the lists of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) when the billion was stolen and the Chisinau International Airport was leased out, even if she said that she never formed part of this party. The Socialists presented a video where Maia Sandu says that she chose to be a member of the PLDM.

“The next lie is that Maia Sandu didn’t know about and didn’t take part in taking the decision concerning the conceding of the airport. The airport was a profitable company and there was no need to concede it a private investor. When this was conceded, there was over €13 million in the account of the airport. Maia Sandu voted as she was told to by the then Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and was an accomplice to the concession,” stated Ion Ceban.

As to Maia Sandu’s assertion that she found out about the situation at Banca de Economii in March 2015, the Socialists said that in 2013 they filed numerous applications whereby they requested the authorities to investigate the situation at this bank given that the number of bad loans there increased considerably.

The PSRM’s staff also said the assertion that Maia Sandu didn’t take part in the provision of Government guarantees for lending money to Banca de Economii is also a lie. There were shown videos of a Cabinet meeting where Maia Sandu voted in favor of providing the money.

According to the Socialists, the affirmation that Maia Sandu didn’t vote for Andrian Candu to be chosen as Speaker of Parliament is not true and Maia Sandu actually flied to Doha, the capital of Qatar, alongside the then Prime Minister Vlad Filat by a charter plane paid by Ilan Shor, but not with the Government’s funds, as the candidate of the center-right opposition asserted. “The trip of only two persons was paid with Government money - Corneliu Bobeicu and Tudor Ulianovski,” stated Ion Ceban.

Maia Sandu and Igor Dodon will duel in the runoff presidential elections on November 13.
