More than 70% of Moldova’s population wants to study the History of Moldova instead of the History of Romanians, shows a survey conducted by the youth wing of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) – the Youth Guard. Representatives of the organization said they will request Minister of Education Mihail Shleahtitski to annul the order to replace the History course with the History of Romanians and Universal History course and if their demand is not fulfilled, they will seek the minister’s dismissal, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The survey was carried out between May 7 and 14. Those polled were asked to answer the closed question: “What subject should be taught – History of Romanians, History of Moldova, or Universal History?”
According to the poll results, 73.2% of the respondents are for teaching the History of Moldova, 15.8% - the History of Romanians, 6% - the Universal History, while 5% refused to answer the question.
In a news conference on Monday, Vlad Batrinca, a member of the executive committee of the PSRM, said the party wanted to find out the population’s wishes as regards the teaching of history in schools.
Earlier, members of the Youth Guard demanded that Minister Mihail Shleahtitski be dismissed because he promotes anti-state policies and manipulates history for the benefit of the unionist movements.
The poll covered a sample of 1 750 persons from nine districts of Moldova, counting Chisinau, Calarasi, Orhei, Comrat, Cahul, Vulcanesti, Balti, Edinet, and Drochia.
