Municipal councilors of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) are launching a campaign to collect signatures to restore the compensation offered by the local authorities in Chisinau during the cold period of the year, IPN reports.
"We consider that the budget that was approved in mid-2024 does not reflect the interests of all the residents of Chisinau, including the most vulnerable ones," said Alexandr Odințov, PSRM councilor on the Chisinau Municipal Council.
Councilors of the PSRM will put up tents in each sector of the capital city, where signatures will be collected. "We have a budget that does not include money for compensation, but millions of lei are earmarked for concerts, diaspora, festivals," noted Socialist councilor Ala Ursu-Antoci.
On the other hand, mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban previously noted that aid, including compensation for the cold period of the year, must be offered fairly and that now such payments are provided by the state. "A pensioner in Chisinau cannot be paid 90% of the bill, and the one in Ialoveni, which is a few kilometers away, only 45% or 50%. It's not fair. It must be the same support for everyone," said the mayor.
Until two years ago, the residents of Chisinau from vulnerable families were paid 40% of the bill for heating and hot water.
