The Party of Socialists (PSRM) has collected over 700,000 signatures in favor of modifying the system of government and switching over from parliamentary republic to presidential republic. By a resolution adopted by the PSRM’s National Council on September 5, the party confirmed its full support for the President of Moldova Igor Dodon, who was elected by the people, and his political and social initiatives, IPN reports.

The president of the PSRM Zinaida Grecheanyi told the press that the over 700 signatures collected by the party will be used for the party’s electoral program. As to the participation in the congress by President Igor Dodon, Zinaida Grecheanyi said the PSRM at its last congress announced its support for the President and that this will always be invited to the party’s meetings and the party’s agenda will be consulted with him as the PSRM is pro-presidential.

The Council adopted a resolution saying the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova is the only party that acts in the interests of the absolute majority of Moldovan people. The main principles of the PSRM meet the expectations of the majority of the country’s citizens. Among these are: to switch over to the presidential system of government; to keep Moldova’s neutrality status and the Moldovan language in the Constitution; to maintain interethnic peace in the country; to relaunch the strategic partnership with the Russian Federation and to keep the good relations with the EU member states; to peacefully settle the Transnistrian conflict; to defend Orthodoxy and the traditional values.

In the same document, the PSRM firmly condemns the government regime’s and pseudo-pro-European opposition’s attempts to divide society and declares it refusal to take part in their infame political games. The party calls on the people of Moldova to unite around its program that envisions the keeping of the country, implementation of reforms in the economy, ensuring of social equality and modernization of society. According to the Socialists, the Party of Socialists is the only alternative to the government of the Euro-unionists who ruled for nine years.
