The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) presented its campaign strategy for the referendum on joining the European Union. PSDE leader Ion Sula announced that the party is clearly and categorically in favor of the YES option in the plebiscite and urged all citizens to support it, IPN reports.

“There are several arguments that make us insist on this decision, even if the current power tries to excessively politicize the referendum and use it in its electoral interest. It is important to achieve a broad national consensus so that we do not allow the Republic of Moldova to deviate from the European course, which is why the PSDE will continue to show maturity and responsibility and will disregard the ambitions of some and the political interests of the moment in order to avoid these risks,” said the chairman of the PSDE Ion Sula.

The Social Democrat noted that ensuring the security of the Republic of Moldova is the biggest challenge and that the European Union is “the only place where we can be safe today”.

“Regrettably, we are in the epicenter of major geopolitical turbulence caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and this has reduced the options for the Republic of Moldova to the maximum. Today we have to choose between two directions, between east and west. One leads to Brussels, the other to Moscow. We have no other ways to go. Going the other way around is suicidal because Russia, unfortunately, has become a great threat, not only for us, but also for all its neighbors, and the Ukrainian lesson confirms this without the right of appeal,” said Ion Sula.

He noted that if the development course is changed, the Republic of Moldova risks getting bogged down in chaos and uncertainty or even disappearing from the map.

“In such conditions, our chances of development and return to a path of normality become practically impossible. In order to prevent this, the PSDE urges all citizens, regardless of political sympathies, on October 20 to go and vote in the referendum and say YES to the accession to the European Union!,” concluded the PSDE leader.

The PSDE was officially registered as a referendum campaigner. The plebiscite will take place simultaneously with the presidential election, on October 20.
