Prosecutor Alexandru Celac, assistant to the chief prosecutor of the Bălți Prosecutor’s Office, offered official apologies to Gheorghe Petic in the name of the state and of the prosecutors and investigation officers who handled the criminal cases started against him, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The apologies were made because the Orhei Court acquitted Gheorghe Petic on November 30, 2021 after the state prosecutor dropped the charges, arguing the constitutive elements of the offense were absent.

In July 2019, after nine months in detention, the activist of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”
Gheorghe Petic was set free after judges of the Chisinau City Appeals Court ordered to retry the case in which he was convicted.

At the start of last October, six former and current employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs were arrested on suspicion that they fabricated a criminal case concerning a sexual offense that was allegedly committed by the former employee of the Ministry Gheorghe Petic.
