A prosecutor from Floresti, who was arrested for passive corruption two years ago, was sentenced to seven years in jail and was taken into custody from the courtroom. The culprit was also fined 20,000 lei and banned from holding public posts for a period of three years, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), the criminal case was started based on a complaint filed by a woman lawyer on probation, who said that the prosecutor asked for 8,000 lei from her for not taking legal action against her and not informing the Lawyers Union about the fact that the lawyer took part in trials without being authorized to. The prosecutor was arrested immediately after he received the money.

Recently, a prosecutor from Ocnita and another one from Floresti were also convicted of corruption. A similar case against a prosecutor from Nisporeni is pending.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reminds that the people can communicate acts of corruption committed by prosecution service employees on the PGO’s green line (022) 226-648 and directly to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office on (022) 257-407, or at the address: Chisinau, 198 Stefan cel Mare St.
