The MPs could be prosecuted without the consent of Parliament. This is provided in the amendments proposed to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. In its February 24 meeting, the Cabinet approved a bill to amend Article 70 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

The bill stipulates that the protection enjoyed by MPs will be narrowed only when the lawmaker is caught in the act of committing an offense for which the arrest is mandatory.

Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari said the bill was coordinated with all the ministries and was consulted publicly, being placed on the website of the Ministry of Justice, in the ‘decisional transparency’ section. The anticorruption appraisal revealed no incompatibilities with the international standards in the document.

The bill will be submitted to the Constitutional Court for endorsement and then to Parliament for examination.
