The City Hall of the Municipality of Chisinau postponed the deadline of the competition for the working out of the sculptural composition “The Ten Commandments of the God”. The term has been prolonged via a decision signed by the interim mayor Vasile Ursu on January 2, based on the request of the Moldovan Plastic Artists Union. Thus, the deadline for submitting the projects is established for March 26.
The 10 Commandments, cut in the stone, are to be installed in the “Nasterea Domnului” Cathedral Square. The idea belongs to the People’s Movement “Armonia Spirituala” (“Spiritual Harmony). According to the head of this organization, Boris Ciobanu, the Commandments are to be written in 15 languages, including European ones, and the languages of all the ethnicities living on the territory of Moldova. Each Commandment is to be illustrated in a corresponding sculptural scene. “We believe that the realisation of the project would lead to reconciliation between different social groups, which are passing through a religious, national or territorial confrontation at the moment”, Ciobanu added.
At a first stage, the organisers will announce an international contest via the diplomatic missions in Moldova and the UN in order to identify the best architectural project. Also via embassies financial sources are to be attracted, so that each interested country participates financially for writing on the sculptures in its national language.
The City Hall postponed the deadline for another sculptural composition “In the Memory of the Victims of the Stalinist Regime” to the same date, March 26.
