The article forms part of IPN’s series to present candidates for mayor of the municipality of Balti at the general local elections of November 5, 2023.

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) designated Sergiu Burlacu as a candidate for mayor of the municipality of Balti for the November 5 local elections. The candidate is 33 and is from Balti.

Sergiu Burlacu is married. He graduated from the former Nistrean Institute of Economy and Law of Balti, being a bachelor of economy, the specialty of business and administration. He is studying for a master’s degree in European law at the extension of the Iasi University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza”. He joined the PLDM and was elected deputy chairman of the party in 2023. He heads the planning and promotion department of the Industrial Park “Răut” and has sat on the Balti Municipal Council since November 1, 2019.

For the period between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022, he declared 112,000 lei earnings and total incomes of 234,000 lei together with his wife, earned as salaries from the joint stock company “Răut”, the Balti Family Doctors Center and the Balti Municipal Council. The candidate also declared 5,684 lei earned from providing services to the Human Rights Association “LEX XXI”. Sergiu Burlacu owns an apartment of 42.4 square meters to the value of 400,000 lei and a car to the value of 166,000 lei bought in 2022.

The priorities announced by Sergiu Burlacu include the development of infrastructure, modernization of the water supply system and extension of the sewerage system, initiation of a project to thermally insulate facades of apartment buildings with the financial support of the mayor’s office and of Moldova’s development partners, modernization of the urban bus and trolleybus services.

The candidate also aims to set up green spaces in quarters and to build multifunctional sports grounds, to clean the Răut River along Stryi St, to create a modern family doctors health center in the building of the former maternity hospital and the consultative center, to attract investments from large companies to Balti and to create over 5,000 jobs.

As it was decided by draw, Sergiu Burlacu will top the list of candidates on the ballot.
