According to Energocom data, the state-owned company in the third quarter of 2024 purchased over 1.1 million MWh of electricity, both on the local market and on the OPCOM stock exchange in Romania. Energocom buys electricity from four sources: 82 percent from MoldGRES, 11 percent from OPCOM, 6 percent from renewable energy producers and 1 percent from thermoelectric plants (CETs), IPN reports.

The volume of green energy purchased by Energocom doubled compared to last year. For example, in August 2023 this volume was 11,600 MWh, while in August 2024 it rose to 21,236 MWh. The same doubling was seen in all the months of this year.

Also, the highest electricity consumption was recorded in July, which was an extremely hot month. Compared to July 2023, consumption increased by 50,000 MWh.

In the fourth quarter, the structure of energy consumption will change. For example, 25% of the energy will be supplied by Termoelectrica and CET Nord, while the share of "green" energy will decrease to 4%, and purchases from MoldGRES will account for 53%. According to Energocom's forecast, energy imports from Romania will increase to 18%.
