The Iasi Association “Moldova Wants Highway” seeks the resignation of Cristian Pistol, the Infrastructure director, due to the delays in building the Union Highway - A8, headlines Ziarul de Iași.

The activists attribute to the official the delays that follow one another in the implementation of the Union Highway project, making them to request the replacement of Cristian Pistol, director general of the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration.

“Whether we are talking about ill will or lack of managerial skills, the desire to have the Union Highway (A8) built, of millions of people in the North-East region who want fast road access to the European Union and economic development, must not and can no longer be ignored,” the Association wans in an open letter.

In particular, it goes to the procrastination of the procedures for launching the public procurement for technical design and works execution services for the Sărățeni – Joseni (32 km), Joseni – Ditrău (15 km), Ditrău – Grințies (37 km) and Grințies – Pipirig (34 km) roads, which are part of the mountain sector of the Tg Mureș – Iasi – Ungheni (A8) Union Highway, the source specifies.

IPN notes that there are yet 170 kilometers on the route of the Union Highway from Pipirig to Ungheni (MD), which are not yet included in the current plans of the Romanian road workers. On the other hand, Google searches show that there is an association “Moldova Wants Highway” in Chisinau as well, but there are no testimonies to any of its activities.

At the same time, TVR Moldova reported that on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, the high-speed road will have a length of 100 kilometers. The funding could be provided by the European Commission, which is already examining the possibility of allocating €1 billion for this project.

The purpose of the highway is to interconnect, through a road corridor, the Odessa-Chisinau-Iasi-Târgu-Mureş-Budapest-Vienna-Munich regions.
