If a pro-Russian political force takes over in Moldova, the LGBT community will also be affected as their situation would be made similar to that of the persons of nontraditional sexual orientation in Russia, Angela Frolov, program coordinator at the Center “Genderdoc-M”, said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN.

“If we look at the program of the Party of Socialists, annulling the antidiscrimination law and introducing a law against homosexual ‘propaganda’, as in Russia, are top priorities for them,” stated Angela Frolov.

The program coordinator noted that Moldova does not have functional laws and justice. “We have politicians who control everything and can change everything. For example, the Supreme Court of Justice is to examine a decision over the hatred language used by Bishop Marchel, which is based only on prejudice and stereotypes. We do not have justice in Moldova. We have politics through which everything its coordinated and dictated. We cannot count on laws and the Constitution. If pro-Russian forces come to power, we will have the same fate as those in Russia,” she said.

The representative of the organization that promotes the rights of the persons of nontraditional sexual orientation said the EU no longer becomes so actively involved in the promotion of the LGBT community’s rights, but continues to finance projects to prevent discrimination and others. “Regrettably, from moral viewpoint, we were abandoned by the EU representatives in Moldova. This year they didn’t support us in the annual march, but in 2013 the EU Delegation to Moldova gave considerable support to us. The UN also supported us openly and powerfully,” stated Angela Frolov.

She added that the U.S. provides great material and moral assistance as the Embassy of the United States always takes part in the march staged by the LGBT community and the ambassador even gave a speech this year.
