The pro-European forces began the struggle for the Chisinau City Hall. After the ruling party on Monday presented its candidate for the mayoralty of the capital city, the leader of the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing (CUB) said the party expected that the PAS would initiate consultations on the local elections. According to Igor Munteanu, in the absence of consensus between the pro-European forces over the municipality, the CUB will propose its own candidate for mayor of Chisinau, IPN reports.

The CUB chairman said the party will have its own candidate for mayoralty and this will be made known at the end of this month. The candidate will come up with solutions to the problems experienced by the capital city. Before the Party of Action and Solidarity announced the candidacy of Lilian Carp, the CUB awaited an invitation to a dialogue on the fate of the local elections from the ruling party.

“We expected that there will be consultations. So, there is a candidate supported only by the ruling party. The CUB will field its candidate who will promote our ideal of good governance, who will deal with the problems related to the management of municipal services and development of the city. We have a short list, but to present a candidate, the party needs the consent of the National Political Council that will be convoked on June 25. We hope that these elections will lead to the solving of the serious problems faced by the capital city. It is sometimes embarrassing to see what is going on in the city as the services are fully outdated,” Igor Munteanu sated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

In the same connection, the representatives of the PAS said they are sure that Lilian Carp can manage the problems experienced in the capital city as he accumulated relevant experience as part of the team of ex-mayor Dorin Chirtoacă.

“We carried out sociological studies to see what the chances are, what expectations the residents of Chisinau have. We aimed to identify a candidate who would meet citizens’ expectations and Lilian Carp was recognized as the candidate with the biggest chances. He is a good candidate with great chances of winning, but it is up to the voters to choose. We are the party that does what it says and we will come up with an implementable program, not only with stories. Ion Ceban promised elevators and parking lots at the entrances to the city and presented many other dreams of his, which weren’t fulfilled. Lilian Carp knows the problems experienced in Chisinau. He lives here and also worked in the field and has solutions to the problems. He will come with a powerful team and I’m sure that he can win,” stated PAS MP Vasile Grădinaru.

In accordance with the Electoral Code, the local general elections are held on the last Sunday of October or on the first Sunday of November. This way, the elections this year will take place on October 29 or on November 5. A decision is to be taken by the Central Election Commission.
