The Moldovan athletes who won medals at the European Youth Olympic Festival in the Netherlands were awarded by the National Olympic Committee. For the silver medal, athlete Anastasia Calinina was awarded 5,000 lei, while Anastasia Detiuc received 4,000 lei for the bronze medal won in the tennis competition.

“We trained for a long time for this competition. This medal means a lot to me,” Anastasia Calinina said in a news conference held at the Committee’s head office on July 23. Anastasia Detiuc didn’t attend the festivity as she is taking part in another international competition.

In the medals rankings, Moldova finished 36th out of 49 participating countries with 15 medals. “This is a success for Moldova. Our young people have a future,” said the president of the National Olympic Committee Nicolae Juravschi.

“The medals were own mainly due to the National Olympic Committee that made everything possible for our delegation to enjoy good training conditions,” said Victor Peicov, mission head of the national team at the Olympic Festival.

Also today, the Committee conferred the Olympic Merit medal on the double Olympic handball champion Veaceslav Garpishin, who won gold at the Olympic Games of 1992 together with the unified team of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and in 2000 together with Russia’s team.
