Princess Sophie of Romania on visit to “Gheorghe Asachi” Lyceum

Her Royal Highness Princess Sophie of Romania on September 19 had a meeting with students of the Chisinau Theoretical Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi” which in the interwar period was called “Queen Maria” and in whose honor a hall of the lyceum was given her name, IPN reports.

Princess Sophie went through the classrooms of the lyceum, discussed with teachers and students. She told the students she was happy to be in their educational institution and encouraged the young people to put questions to her. An exchange of opinions followed. Later, the lyceum’s administration thanked her Royal Highness for her presence at the opening of the historic hall that will bear the name of Queen Maria. At the end of her visit, Princess Sophie of Romania had a group picture with those attending.

Princess Sophie was born in Tatoï, Athens, Greece, on October 29, 1957. She was born the same day her great-grandmother Queen Maria was born. The events that happened in Romania in 1989 changed her life. She interrupted her studies and returned to the family’s home in Switzerland to help her father and the country. Since 2018, Princess Sophie has lived in Romania. She helps the Royal Family in its efforts to promote Romania at national and international levels and to emphasize the country’s rich history, culture and beauty of nature.
