Prime Minister Maia Sandu, who is on a visit to Vilnius, expressed gratitude for the political support that the Government of Lithuania granted to the Republic of Moldova in achieving structural reforms and its priority objectives. During the meeting with her Lithuanian counterpart, Saulius Skvernelis, Maia Sandu also thanked for providing the development assistance and necessary expertise, as a member of the European Union, a bilateral partner and a NATO member.

The head of the government gave assurances that the Government's action plan would be based on the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. "We undertook to carry out, as soon as possible, a series of actions aimed at ensuring an independent justice system, with professional judges and prosecutors, and at building strong and efficient institutions in the fight against corruption, but also at providing an improvement in the living standards of all citizens, and especially of those with low incomes,”, stressed the prime minister, quoted in a press release sent by the Government.

For his part, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis emphasized that Lithuania strongly supports the Republic of Moldova in implementing the Association Agreement, as well as in other specific areas related to the process of European integration, backing Moldova's endeavours in the European capitals.

The sides were also open to continue negotiations for signing the Intergovernmental Agreement on the mutual recognition of driving licenses and the Bilateral Roaming Tax Reduction Agreement.

Also during her visit to Vilnius, Prime Minister Maia Sandu had an official meeting with the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament, Viktoras Pranckietis. They exchanged opinions regarding the strengthening of interparliamentary relations and the exchange of experience between the Chisinau and Vilnius parliaments, while highlighting the importance of experience exchange and taking over good European practices in the Republic of Moldova.

During her official visit to Vilnius, Prime Minister Maia Sandu met with the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda. The Moldovan prime minister emphasized that the only solution for the development of the Republic of Moldova is the integration in the EU in order to ensure democracy, observance of human rights and high living standards for the citizens of our country

During the visit, Maia Sandu had a meeting with Linas Linkevicius, Lithuania's foreign minister. The officials examined the possibility of resuming the activity of the Moldovan-Lithuanian Joint Commission for European Integration, within the framework of which issues concerning both European integration and economic cooperation would be discussed.
