On the Day of Bulgarian Culture and Slavic Writing, Prime Minister Dorin Recean wished for unity to achieve the country’s common goal – European integration, which will ensure peace, freedom and well-being. The message was conveyed during a cultural event held at the Grigori Tsamblak State University in Taraclia.

“Unity makes strength. I want Moldova to become a European country. A place of peace, prosperity and well-being for all the people of this country. It is the only way for Moldova to grow”, declared the prime minister.

He also spoke about the advantage of ethnic diversity and intercultural dialogue in our country, which enrich our national heritage. “We are all Moldovans, even if we represent different ethnicities and speak different languages. The Bulgarian language is the only language with Cyrillic script in the European Union, and our culture will become an integral part and provide diversity to the European cultural heritage”, said Dorin Recean.

The prime minister urged the local community to support the European course of Moldova and highlighted in this context the excellent relations of our country with Bulgaria, which has followed the same path. The prime minister also welcomed the decision of the authorities to transform the university of Taraclia into a regional, European one, to meet the educational needs of ethnic Bulgarians and other ethnicities in the region.

During his visit to the Taraclia State University, the prime minister laid flowers at the Monument of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet, used for writing in the Bulgarian language.

Prime Minister Recean also had a meeting with representatives of local authorities in Taraclia district, inhabited mainly by ethnic Bulgarians. He spoke about the need to strengthen cooperation between central and local authorities to ensure better living conditions for people of all ethnicities, but also to speed up the country’s accession to the European Union.

The prime minister also emphasized the importance of the upcoming referendum on Moldova’s EU membership. “We are irreversibly anchoring our country on the European path and building a peaceful, multicultural Moldova, where citizens treat each other with respect and the state takes care of people. Everything we are doing today - numerous infrastructure and development projects - will change our cities and villages throughout the country and bring Europe to our home”, added Dorin Recean.
