Prim-Minister Vasile Tarlev told a Government meeting regarding the control over the quality of alcoholic and agro-alimentary products, exported and imported to Moldova, on Thursday, August 31, that the Moldovan market is filled with low quality agro-alimentary products, and many of these are brought to Moldova by smugglers. According to a press release of the Executive, the prime-minister mentioned an efficient method of quality control of the exported Moldovan products. The prime-minister also stated that in order to protect the consumers’ rights there is a need for potent methods of the products sold on the Moldovan market. Therefore all products intended for commercialization in the Republic of Moldova should be qualified with the international quality control requirements. This information should be complete, true and precise and should be applied to the product’s envelope. The head of the Executive has requested to hurry the creation of the legislative and normative means to create the National center of quality control of alcoholic beverages intended for export, with the international accreditation of this organization and its laboratories. The Government approved in its meeting from Wednesday, August 30, a draft law regarding the intensification of production, transport and commercialization of forged alcoholic drinks. The Penal and administrative contraventions Codes have been modified to fit the new law. According to official statistics, the so-called “Wine war” caused damage to the Moldovan economy of USD 21 mln, while unofficial data claims loss were several times bigger.
