The consumers in northern Moldova could pay more for electricity. The company “Furnizarea Energiei Electrice Nord” requested the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) to increase the rate for household users from 2.51 to 2.93 lei/kWh, IPN reports.

According to the provider, it needs to cover the costs following the rise in the purchase price of electricity as from May 1. Also, the company makes reference to the average annual exchange rate of the Moldovan leu against the U.S. dollar, which is another factor that leads to a rise in the average purchase price of electrical energy.

“The necessity of updating the regulated prices is determined by the financial situation of the entity that at the moment honors with difficulty its contractual obligations towards suppliers/producers of electrical energy and transmission system operators,” explained the company.

The company “Premier Energy” also asked NAER to raise the electricity rates by 20%, from 2.17 to 2.71 lei/kWh for end users connected to low voltage power lines (domestic consumers).

Earlier, the Agency accepted the request of “Premier Energy” to increase the rate from 1.51 lei to 2.17 lei/kWh as from April 1 this year. For the consumers from the northern districts, the rate was raised from 2.04 to 2.51 lei/kWh.
