In the entire country, inspections and public awareness campaigns are in full swing to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and fires caused by improper use of stoves. The campaign is traditionally conducted ahead of the cold season, reports the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), as cited by IPN.
Experts urge people to carefully check their stoves before using them to ensure they are functional and free of soot or debris. IGSU staff also recommend that homeowners regularly ventilate the rooms where stoves are located and use a metal plate or base when the stove is lit to protect the floor from heat. Additionally, lighting a fire using gasoline, kerosene, or other highly flammable liquids is strictly prohibited.
According to statistics reported by IGSU for last year, 1,667 fires were caused by improper stove use, resulting in 21 fatalities. From the beginning of this year until now, 1,242 fires have occurred, leading to the deaths of 18 people.
