The Press Council of Moldova is holding a contest to choose members for the period between April 2014 and April 2016. The contest is open to candidates recommended by the journalistic community and consumers of mass media products from Moldova, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Press Council, the candidates representing the journalistic community can be proposed by editorial offices of media outlets (print and broadcast media, information portals), professional organizations of journalists, organizations of media employers and other public associations from the mass media sector. The candidates must know the journalistic deontology, be impartial and have a length of service in journalism of at least three years.

The candidates who will represent the consumers of mass media products can be suggested by groups of consumers consisting of at least ten persons, trade union and employers organizations, religious and political organizations, other public associations.

The applications must be accompanied by the candidate’s CV, a recommendation letter and argumentation that the candidate meets the announced criteria. The letter must be signed by the manager and a representative of the staff of the organization or institution recommending him/her. In the case of the candidates fielded by groups of consumers, the letter must be signed by at least ten persons and must contain their contact data. The candidates must also confirm that they want to work on a voluntary basis as members of the Press Council.

The Press Council consists of nine persons selected at an open contest for a two-year term. Four members represent the journalistic community, two of whom the regional mass media, while five represent the consumers of mass media products.
